Frequently Asked Questions

Cost

How much does a typical blind cost?

You can spend anywhere from a hundred dollars up to a thousand dollars or more on an “average-sized” window, depending on the features you want. But remember, this is a custom treatment built to your specifications. We’ll listen to your needs, meet your budget, and get the right product at the right price for you.

How much do custom window treatments cost for my whole home?

The cost of custom window treatments can vary. It depends on factors such as the number and sizes of your windows (and your specific wishlist). The range of options is wide, from standard blinds to premium shades with motorization. On the lower end, you’ll spend 1-2% of the value of your home. On the higher end, you can spend 3-5% of your home value. Our designers are here to help you find the perfect combination of options that maximize impact while staying within your budget.

Are professional window treatments worth it?

When you choose custom window treatments, you’re investing in an essential design element that will affect the feel and functionality of your home for years. Your designer will help you find window treatments you love, with all the features you need. You’ll also get professional measurements and installation to ensure everything works perfectly.

Professional window treatments are not a good fit if you are just looking for the cheapest way to cover your windows. If you’re looking for higher-quality products that fit your aesthetic and last for years, custom window treatments are worth the investment.

What window treatments increase home value?

While the specific impact on your home can vary, timeless, high-end window treatments can make a home more desirable and even increase the purchase price. Energy-efficient blinds and motorization can also increase the value to potential buyers.

Specific Issues

I have vinyl windows. Can you install blinds on these types of windows?

Our certified Hunter Douglas installers can work with all types of windows. There are some vinyl-window companies that will even allow “inside mount” installations, which involve drilling into the vinyl window. But due to warranty issues, we’ll need permission from your builder or window company before we drill into the vinyl.

Are there options if I don’t want to cover up my Pella window trim?

Most of the time we can install our blinds “inside mount” on your Pella windows. Our Hunter Douglas-certified installers have learned an inside mount is our preferred installation method — we don’t want to cover up your beautiful woodwork either.

What about skylights or arches?

More than likely, you paid a lot of money for these beautiful types of windows, and unless there’s a sun issue, we should keep that skylight or arch open. If there is a heat or glare issue, we have products that complement these types of windows and function beautifully.

Design

What are people putting in their windows right now?

People are putting everything in their windows. You don’t have to put the same thing in every window; you can mix and match depending on your budget and needs. You can splurge on a main window with a Silhouette and complement it with Nantuckets on the others. That’s what’s great about Hunter Douglas. There are a variety of products to fit your budget and your lifestyle.

What is the difference between curtains and draperies?

Curtains and draperies look similar but have some key differences. Curtains are lighter, unlined, and sometimes used for privacy and light filtering. Draperies are heavier, lined for insulation and light control, and add a more formal touch. The choice depends on what you want — stylistically and functionally.

Are curtains and drapes still in style?

Yes, you can still find curtains and drapes in many modern homes. To achieve a more streamlined aesthetic, you can choose options with clean lines and contemporary fabrics. If you want help getting a modern look for your window treatments, book a session with one of our designers.

How do I decide what features I need?

There are many features and styles to consider when it comes to window treatments. We’re here to help make the decisions easier. We’ll ask some starting questions to understand your needs and get a feel for what you like. Then, we’ll walk you through features that align with your needs.

Installation

How quickly can you get the blinds installed?

While we don’t have any control over the production timeline, we have a longstanding relationship with Hunter Douglas. That allows us to get competitive timelines on the production of your window coverings. Once they’re delivered to our shop, we turn around and install them quickly — within three to five days!

Who does your installations?

We use only Hunter Douglas-certified installers. These technicians undergo extensive training and are very particular about how your window coverings look and function in your home. They know their stuff!
